Shropshire Hills AONB 50th Anniversary
2008 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The designation recognises the national importance of the area; striking hills and river valleys, rolling farmland, hedgerows and woodland, picturesque villages and historic monuments. The wealth of wildlife, rich local culture and tranquility are also valued as special qualities of the Shropshire Hills.
The Shuttles enable people to access this beautiful countryside easily without having to drive. This is an important part of the work of the Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership, who work together to conserve and sustain the landscape.
March 2008 - Shuttles back on the Road
The Shropshire Hills Shuttles partners - which include Shropshire County Council, the Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership and the National Trust, are pleased to announce that the Shuttles will be running again during the summer of 2008.
The Shuttles will run weekends and Bank Holiday Mondays between 3rd May and 28th September 2008.
June 2007 - See space from the Shuttle
Getting on the bus is the easy part - getting off is another matter. The Stiperstones bus trip is that most rare of creatures: a wholly enjoyable public transport experience that leaves passengers, and even dogs, not wanting to alight....

February 2007 - Funding News
We are pleased to announce that the 2007 Shropshire Hills Shuttle services are funded by Shropshire County Council and the National Trust, supported by Natural England and the Shropshire Hills AONB Partnership.
The Shuttles aim to reduce the amount of car journeys made through some of Shropshire’s most beautiful and sensitive areas, encouraging greener and more sustainable travel and tourism. We have succeeded in linking in with the area's existing train and bus services to get people into and around the area without using a car.
We give half price travel on the Shuttles to anyone who produces a valid bus or train ticket on the day.
15th December 2006 - Winners of Competition
Three Shuttle drivers were celebrating for the second time this week.
Passengers using the service that takes people up to the Long Mynd and Stiperstones area throughout the summer months
have been completing short questionnaires about their trip. The responses concerning the Shuttles drivers rated them extremely highly as an important part of the service.
Passengers showed appreciation for their driver on the day by returning the questionnaire, marked with the driver’s name, to the TESS offices where they have been used to evaluate the service which is run by TESS (Transport for Everyone in South Shropshire).
The driver receiving the most responses was Harry, and in second and third place were Graham and Steve.
Harry was presented with a meal voucher for two for a Carvery at The Craven Arms, and all three were given a large tin of chocolates.
Earlier in the week all the Shuttles drivers were celebrating having won the Shropshire County Council’s Economy and Environment Services directorate Team OSCA (Outstanding Contribution Awards). SCC’s Fleet Operations Officer, Peter Ralphs, commented, “I am very pleased for them and they justly deserve their award.”
Pictured receiving their prizes from Linda Cox, Chief Officer of TESS, are Harry, Steve and Graham.
BBC Radio Shropshire Rides the Shuttles
BBC Radio Shropshire’s Kate Tebby took time out from the studio in the summer of 2006 to ride the Shuttles buses and chat to passengers.
The BBC has put a page on their website with lots of interesting info about the attractions on the Stiperstones Shuttle route and Kate’s interviews. To hear her accounts and read the BBC webpage please click here
